Rockfish: Trophy Striped Bass/Rockfish season starts on Sunday May 1st! This is the time of year when trolling is very productive. Troll tandem or umbrella rigs with little to no weight, since fish are typically in the upper 20 feet of the water column. Focus on channel edges! Chumming can also work durinh trophy season. Anchor on a point and use fresh alewife. We will also have soft crabs available for Sunday!
Catfish: Fishing for catfish is still a great option, and they are literally all over the bay! Use fresh shrimp or fresh alewife. You will most likely catch a few catfish if you are out chumming for rockfish!
Shad: Shad fishing in the upper rivers and creeks in still on fire! Try Tuckahoe Creek, the Upper Choptank, the Upper Patuxent or Potomac, Fletchers Cover or Mattawoman creek. Small Nungesser spoons are working well along with shad darts tipped with a little plastic stinger. Try rigging them in tandem!
Snakehead: As the weather continues to warm up we are seeing more and more people catching them on top water. Chatterbaits are also working very well! Blackwater and many of the rivers in the area such as the Transquaking and the Chicamacomico are doing very well! On the western shore try the upper Patuxent or Mattawoman Creek.
