Rain, wind and more wind is what we had to deal with the past few days! That didn’t stop anglers from getting out and fishing. White perch fishing continues to be the hot bite in his week with almost everyone getting on the action. The bite continued to be good after the rain on Saturday and wind on Sunday, guys keep catching a good amount of perch on flooded creeks since the perch use the high water to move up even further up. Eastern shore rivers like the choptank, Nanticoke River, Tuckahoe creek and marshyhope creeks have been the hot spots. Using grass shrimp on a shad dart under a bobber if your fishing 5 foot of water or less and bottom rigs with minnows or bloodworms if your fishing deep holes.
One regulation to remember is to use circle hooks if your using live minnows. So just keep that in mind when using live minnows you might have to adjust your rigs. We also had the first hickory Shad caught in the fletchers cove area this past week as well as the first few been caught over on the Easter shore rivers. Shad fishing seems to be getting started a little early this year and with temperatures staying in the 50s for the next week or two it should only get better.
Striped bass fishing was pretty good for the guys jigging open water before the rain and the wind. Fishing form sharps island to bloody point seems to be the area to search for some of them big 40+ inch fish. 1-2oz Jigs are still the ticket when fishing 20-60 foot of water some of the hot colors are still pearl and sexy mullet on the the zman 7 inch dizel minnows. Trolling the edges is also producing some fish most anglers are using tandems from 25ft to 40 foot deep.
Dnr has stocked some of the creeks and ponds with rainbow and golden trout make sure to check some of the closures for each creek since some are currently closed to fishing because of the closure periods to let them Seattle down before the season opens up in April. So get your small in line spinners ready like a classic mepps #0 or #1 and of course can’t forget power bait.
