We been seen more and more of the summer species show up to the lower portion of the Chesapeake bay (Maryland waters) Cobia, bull reds and some large bluefish have been the name of the game for anglers the past week. Most anglers targeting Cobia have been chumming with bunker around smith point and the target ship area with most catching at least one keeper Cobia. Sight fishing for them as also worked but most temp to head a little south in to Virginia waters around the shipping channels. Casting Live eel’s ,bucktais and twitch baits have been the best things to cast at them.

Fishing for striped bass has officially closed for the Maryland  Chesapeake bay summer closure that goes from July 16 to the 31st. Anglers are not allowed to target them or keep them for that time frame. Most will be fishing the souther portion of the bay chasing blue fish and hoping to run in to a school or bull reds while scanning the shipping channel edges from Solomon’s to the point lookout area.
Fishing for white perch around the shorelines can be fun this time of the year since you can get a mix of species while perch fishing like slot size red drum, speckle trout and catfish in some areas in the upper bay.
