Cover Image: Anglers employees Lyndsie and Sammy found that shad are still prevalent in the upper parts of our local rivers, and that there are still some nice white perch holding up in the those shallow areas as well!
Shad fishing: One of our favorite fisheries this time of year, this fun, hard fighting fish can be caught in the upper parts of many of our local rivers such as the Choptank, Patuxent and Potomac. Trying fishing for them in the Greenboro area, at Fletchers near DC, or at Mattawoman and use shad darts, small plastic stingers like the ones made by Bust ‘Em Baits, or small spoons. Making a tandem rig with a shad dart on top and a spoon on the bottom can be quite effective!
White Perch: White perch are starting to move into deeper water in our local rivers such as the Magothy and Severn, but there are definitely still some left in those typical spawning locations in the upper rivers. Minnow and shad darts are still working well, but you can start to use spinners like perch pounders as well.
Catfish: Catfish can be caught almost anywhere in the bay right now! North of the bridge has been especially good, and shore fishing spots such as Sandy Point and Matapeake are doing really well. You can also target in the main parts and the mouths of the rivers!
Snakehead: Snakehead fishing is definitely going strong thanks to some warmer days! The Blackwater area is doing well, as well as parts of the upper bay like the flats and Bush rivers. The Magothy and the Severn are still on the slower side, but the fish are there!
